Five Star All Inclusive in Cayo Coco

Caribbean holidays seem almost unworthy if you opt to travel on a self catering basis, partly because the idea of sunning ourselves by the pool all day and sipping on umpteen free cocktails (ok, perhaps umpteen pints of watered down lager) sounds like just what you need right now, and partly because the price difference between self catering holidays and all inclusive holidays these days is very little.

A couple of days ago I returned from my travels, I spent two fabulous weeks in Cayo Coco, well just next door to Cayo Coco, in a superb five star hotel called the Meliá Cayo Guillermo. Yes, the grounds were beautiful, the pool was out of this world and the standard of the rooms were second to none, however, it was the delicious food that ultimately sealed the deal. I have personally always been hesitant of all inclusive holidays due to some awful experiences I’ve had (all kindly explained in detail on the heartbreak hotel section), but the Meliá Cayo Guillermo exceeded all my expectations when it came to the dining side of things.

On site there are a total of three ala carte restaurants, which allow one visit a week per restaurant. So in turn I had three nights a week of fine dining, and the other nights we decided to venture out and sample some of the eateries around and about. The international Buffet-style restaurant was fantastic and was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As well as having the advantage of there being a buffet service to enjoy, there was also an open grill where all your food was cooked there and then in front of you. This was a brilliant touch as it reassured me that all my food was freshly prepared and I could see exactly who was cooking it. Another one of the restaurants me and my partner enjoyed was the Beach restaurant that served lunch time meals. The appeal of this eatery was the wonderful sea views that were on offer as you ate your meal. Also, some of the international dishes here were to die for. As well as the delicious meals we tasted, we had the advantage of sampling some lovely wines and local spirits, with the peace of mind that we needn’t put our hand in our pocket once. I would definitely recommend this hotel for your next all inclusive holiday and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
