Holidays are a tricky thing to get your head around sometimes, especially now we have so many different offers and ways to buy handed to us online. It’s difficult to figure out if you need to hold off buying as long as you can to enjoy the savings of last minute holidays or if you should book far in advance to save the disappointment of not having a space in a resort that you’ve really wanted to visit.

The amount of people who are enjoying last minute holidays are actually increasing year on year. This is generally because people want to avoid the fuss of having to book in advance. In a situation where you and your partner work, it can be difficult if not impossible to say exactly when you’ll be able to take a holiday, and there’s no point booking a holiday 8 months down the road if you learn that you’ll be getting a promotion and will need to work at that point!

The complicated thing about last minute holidays is that they work differently depending on demand. For most of the year, you really can get a great deal and shave hundreds of pounds off the price of your holiday by booking only a few weeks before you go. However, in school breaks and public holiday periods last minute deals are actually more expensive as the resorts raise prices to meet the expected demand.

You can usually get the best deals on last minute holidays providing you are ready to be flexible. The more you are open to accepting a good deal the better – getting a saving on particular destination is likely, but trying to find a last minute deal on the correct resort and the exact flights that you want will be a lot more difficult. If you’re realistic about your expectations and can just get away at any point within a few weeks, last minute holidays are a great idea.
