The Carina Hotel in Rhodes Town, Rhodes
The Carina Hotel is a simple 2 star property situated in Rhodes Town. Popular with younger holidaymakers, the hotel benefits from being close to the beach and nightlife of Rhodes as well as offering a cheap option for when booking your Rhodes holiday. The hotel is surrounded by shops, restaurants and bars and offers easy access to Lindos road and Kallithea due to it being so close to the old town. Having only 40 rooms on site, you would probably say this is a small and friendly hotel, however perhaps it is best to leave the ‘friendly’ part out. Ants and bugs crawling all over the place, staff extremely rude and toilets that flooded every time you flushed them; these are just a handful of comments we have seen from previous guests who have stayed at this abode.

It’s a problem we have all had in the past whilst booking a holiday, your travel agent comes across a fantastic deal going from your preferred airport, staying in a hotel that is central to everything and with a price that couldn’t even get you away for a weekend to Skegness. The agent sells the hotel to us perfectly; “it’s brilliant for kids, you can see the wonderful seaviews from the balcony of your room and the photographs from the brochure look lovely”. However when you arrive the only activity there is for the kids is a dangerous looking, worn out climbing frame, the view from the balcony is of a concrete car park and those photographs in the brochure was almost certainly of a different hotel.

The Carina Hotel is one of those hotels. Reviews describe the place as ‘an awful high rise block that is poorly crammed into a street, with rooms that are so simple you might as well have slept on the beach.’ From the awful, hard beds to the lack of air conditioning or fans creating a sauna to sleep in, the balcony appears to be a more comfortable place to rest your head. Having read the comments regarding the food also, unfortunately they are no better. Breakfast merely consists of a stale bread role and warm orange juice and that was every day. I would strongly recommend you try to steer clear of this hotel when next booking your trip to Rhodes, however don’t be put off by travelling to this beautiful town in Greece completely as there are some fantastic properties situated in Rhodes Town that are definitely worth a visit.
